IMO the Adidas Team Issue duffel bag takes the prize as the best gym bag for men.

But I still think the ones below may also serve the purpose. At the end of the day, it all comes down to each one’s taste.

They say an artist is only as good as their tools.

That’s why everything in my workout closet serves a purpose, including my gym bag.

If you want a duffel that works as hard as mine to make part of your gym equipment checklist, these 5 best gym bags for men will do the trick.

What To Look For When Shopping For In A Gym Bag

Size

One of the first things you need to consider when shopping for a men’s gym bag is the size.

More than that, you need to take into account all the things you’ll stuff in there, from the deodorant you use to the running shoes you swear by.

That said, opt for a small-ish duffel if you’re a weekend warrior and your workout sessions are rather short.

If you’re a full-blown gym rat, on the other hand, invest in a large-ish gym bag that’ll fit all of your gym stuff, from your blender bottle to your protein powder.

Material

Even though choosing a specific type of material for your duffel is a matter of personal style, I’d advise you to put your likings aside for a while and focus on the benefits of each option.

Speaking of options, you can choose between nylon, polyester, canvas, and leather. Nylon is a slick material; nothing new here. But, thanks to its slippery nature, the fabric doesn’t stain easily and is waterproof which makes it perfect for those rainy days when you want to hit the gym. Nylon duffels are also lightweight, allowing you to carry multiple things at once without feeling the burden.

Then, we got polyester. This material is durable and resistant to stains, two qualities that make maintenance a breeze. It’s also lightweight which is great if you have a lot of things to carry around. Unfortunately, polyester is not “breathable” and tends to retain humidity. That could make your bag smell nasty if you don’t freshen it up often.

Canvas gym bags are also durable and waterproof but given the fabric’s texture, they require a bit more maintenance than polyester and nylon duffels. The material is also quite affordable and can carry ten times its weight in gym goodies (if not more).

Lastly, we got leather gym bags which -YES!- look cool AF. They’re also durable and quite easy to clean. Plus, they often double as travel bags, giving you a bang for your buck (oh yes, they can be pricey).

The only downside?

Leather gym bags are not suitable for anyone with lots of things to carry since the material is heavy on its own.

Fun fact about me: I’m a “dark canvas” kind of guy. That said, I always go for canvas gym bags which are dark in color.

You see, the canvas can last a lifetime and the dark color keeps the material from staining even if I place the bag on the dingiest of locker room floors.

Straps

OK, this one is not a definite deal-breaker, but the way I see it, the more pockets your gym bag has, the better.

Why’s that?

For one, you can easily store all your lose-able things such as keys, cell phone, and earbuds for easy access.

A plenty-of-pockets design also keeps your precious items separate from those that are drenched in sweat.

So, you get the point.

Pocket Galore

Another thing to consider when shopping for the best gym bag for men is the straps. For some folks out there, just two handles at the top of the bag work just fine.

But, if you want to keep your hands free (like I do), look for a duffel with a single long strap to sling it over one shoulder or strap it across your body like a messenger bag.

Top 5 Best Gym Bags For Men, Reviewed

Adidas Team Issue Duffel Bag (Editor’s Choice)

As the proud owner of the Adidas Team Issue duffel bag, I’ve had many people come up to me and ask how I feel about this sports equipment best-seller.

Honestly, I always respond with the same three words: “Money well spent” – and here’s why.

For starters, the gym bag is made of polyester, nylon, and elastane which means it’s ultra-durable and could last a lifetime if maintained properly.

The company even offers a lifetime warranty which proves that the product is built to last.

It also comes with a comfy shoulder strap, sparing me the heavy lifting.

More than that, the strap features a super-soft pad which makes carrying all the more comfortable.

The duffel also has a water-resistant base, so you can place it pretty much anywhere without worrying about your clothes getting wet – even on the grass if you train outdoors.

If you look to the side, you’ll also see a shoe pocket where you can store your sneakers.

I usually put my post-gym socks in there because I don’t want them to touch the rest of my stuff.

FYI, the pocket is ventilated, so there’s zero chance it’ll ever smell foul.

And for those of you who can’t live without their gadgets, the bag comes with multiple zippered pockets (inside and out) for maximum convenience.

Pros

Cons

Under Armour Undeniable 3.0 Duffel

Do you see that 3.0 in the title?

Well, that’s right! This Under Armor line was available in the past in two lesser-quality versions, making this one the best so far.

Made with polyester material and featuring an abrasion-resistant bottom (as well as tough side panels), this third state-of-the-art version is a synonym to durability.

It also has an adjustable padded shoulder strap and a padded top handle for maximum comfort.

But, the best is yet to come.

The updated gym bag features Under Armour’s Storm technology which provides you with a water-resistant finish that’s durable against natural elements.

That means you can finally train in the great outdoors without worrying about your bag getting ruined.

Being the top-rated duffle that it is, it also has a vented side pocket for storing your dirty shoes, socks, or anything you don’t want near your workout gear.

If there’s one thing I’d change on this gym bag is the size of the shoe pocket.

You see, I wear size 11 which barely fits the compartment. I have to place the shoes at a specific angle to get the zipper to close from side to side.

But, maybe that’s just me.

Cons

Kuston Sports Gym Bag

When it comes to gym bags, many gym-goers are split into two camps: those who value convenience over a cool design and those who want both.

Since I’m part of that second group, owning a Kuston duffel was in the cards for me – and boy, am I glad I bought one!

Unlike most of its peers, this sports bag is made of oxford fabric which means it’s waterproof and durable AF.

It also comes in 14 different colors, so you’re bound to find one that matches your style.

But, the bag’s biggest perk is -without a doubt- the inner waterproof pocket.

This feat allows you to store your electronics in the same compartment as your sweaty gym clothes without getting them wet. #lifesaver

The bag also comes with a padded strap and a comfortable handle for easy toting.

And if you think the people at Kuston forgot about your sneakers, think again.

The duffel has a specially designed pocket for your shoes, sparing you from carrying them around in your hands.

And don’t worry! The shoe compartment is ventilated, so your damp shoes and clothes won’t turn the bag into a stink bomb.

Cons

Mouteenoo Gym Sports Small Duffel Bag

If you’re looking for a duffle that’s elegant enough to fool anyone into thinking it’s a carryall, then this is your model.

Mouteenoo’s neat design and jean-like color hues add a certain charm to this men’s gym bag, making you look cool even in workout clothes (it works for me).

Looks aside, the duffel is made of water-resistant nylon which proves it’s in it for the long haul.

It also comes with a lifetime guarantee which means the people at Mouteenoo are uber-confident about their design.

I won’t lie; that makes me trust the brand even more.

Unlike others, the bag also comes with an inner fleece pocket which adds an extra layer of protection for my phone and other fragile valuables.

It also has a special shoe pocket to keep my dirty gear separate from the rest. That’s always a plus.

The only issue with this gym bag is it’s a bit small.

That often limits my workout options as I’m forced to carry just the essentials.

So, I only use for short trips to the gym.

Pros

Cons

Nike Brasilia Medium Training Duffel Bag

I don’t know if this has ever happened to you, but the moment I saw this gym bag, I had to have it.

Maybe it was the minimalistic design or the fact that it gave me serious “Just Do It” vibes (see that Nike logo right there?), but the duffel won me over from that very first moment.

Chances are it will win you over too, and here’s why. First off, it’s made with polyester which guarantees a lifetime experience.

More than that, it features a moisture-wicking bottom which keeps your gear as dry as possible, even after a super sweaty day at the gym.

Like all best-sellers, this one comes with a special shoe compartment which, FYI, is ventilated and keeps the air flowing.

So, even if you stuff it with damp workout clothes, it will stay fresh and spare you the stench.

The bag also has multiple pockets (inside and out) which help me store a lot of things, from training gloves to armbands.

And if you’re wondering about the strap, yes, it’s padded which means it won’t hurt your neck.

The editor's choice

From helping me pack all the essentials to minimizing the “dirty laundry” chaos afterward, gym bags always make my workout routine that much simpler – which is why I think the Adidas Team Issue duffel bag is second to none.

This men’s gym bag combines a fresh design with functionality, a must-have trait combo for a regular gym-goer (hey, that’s me).

This model is also durable, and the well-thought-out design keeps the inside ventilated.

You know what that means? No stench. Ever.

And yes, this duffel is a bit pricey but given the perks it has to offer, I believe it’s a worthwhile investment.

So, these are my suggestions for the best gym bags for men.
